Beauty and Goodness of the World - Mindfulness retreat

7 May 2017 - 14 May 2017
Shastri Simon La Haye

By meditation we mean something very basic and simple that is not tied to any culture. We are talking about a very basic act: sitting on the ground, assuming a good posture, and developing a sense of our spot, our place on earth.
Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoché - Shambhala, The Sacred Path of the Warrior

Discover the fresh and authentic approach of Shambhala meditation, by studying some of the great ideas of Buddhism and by practicing mindfulness in nature.
This retreat allows us to touch our hearts and explore our perception of ourselves and our environment.

The deep insight of meditation, tender but unbiased, allows us to reconnect with our humanity and to develop an appreciation of ourselves, just as we are. We take a moment in our busy lives to feel the gentle and simple strength that dwells within all of us. It allows us to reawaken our connection with life around us, by taking a fresh approach.

Through a personal exploration of our relation with reality and our perceptions, it is possible for us to experience the fullness of our existence and nature surrounding us.

We will also be looking at some of the great teachings of the Buddhist and Shambhalian philosophy – like impermanence, the role of mind in perceptions, the creation of interpretative grids of reality or vacuity.

Like Chögyam Trungpa also said: If you search for awaken heart, if you put your hand threw your rib cage and feel for it, there is nothing there except for tenderness ”.
It is this tenderness that we invite you to discover.

This retreat will combine : teachings, discussions and exercises ; sessions of sitting meditation including outside meditation in nature ; body exercises and time for exploring the boundless nature of Dechen Chöling.

This program is open to both beginners  and to those who have experience in meditation and the Buddhist teachings. Please note if you are a student on the Shambhala path, that it matches the teachings of Basic Goodness series 3 (« What is real ? »).

This program starts in the evening of Sunday May 7 and ends on the morning of Sunday May 14.
On arrival day, you’re invited to come from 4 pm in order to register and settle in your room.
Dinner is served at 6.45pm and orientation talk starts at 8 pm.

This program is taught in French by Simon La Haye. Translation in English possible upon request.

Between sessions of meditation

Helping is part of the meditation experience of Dechen Chöling. Short periods of « rota » are suggested such as assisting the kitchen, washing dishes and helping in the garden. It compliments the practice of meditation allowing you to manifest the teachings received, to deepen relations among participants and also for you to experience life in our community.

There is opportunity to enjoy free time walking in the splendid natural environment of Dechen Chöling and make use of our library.

Simon La Haye has been a student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche for over 35 years, and has been teaching on the Shambhala vision during that time.
He has always been involved in the administration of Shambhala, and more particularly was the director of Dechen Chöling for more than 10 years.
Since 2014 he is teaching full time. In particular he is interested on how we can bring the experience of meditation in our daily life.
