"Opening the good Eye"

Miksang Workshop Level 1

'When we actually see directly, the world appears fresh, vivid and alive.'

Workshop Description:
"Opening the Good Eye" is an introduction to the discipline and delight of direct seeing and perception-based photography. We begin to develop the ability to synchronize our mind and eye so that our habitual patterns of seeing and labeling dissolve in a moment of stunning vivid, perception. During the course we will work with visual exercises and photographic assignments to explore the world of form. We develop confidence in our ability to connect directly with what we see, stay fully present with the perception as we fully understand its qualities, and then express our experience precisely with our cameras.
Workshop Details:
Each day begins with visual exercises followed by a shooting assignment. After lunch we meet for editing, and you will also have free time, for relaxing, socializing and recharging. After dinner we meet for the photo review. All in all it’s good fun for all of us.
Meditation:
Optional we offer a meditation instruction. If you like you may join the daily meditation sessions at Dechen Chöling in the morning and the evening.

Pre-requisites: None. Open to all levels of photographic experience.
Camera: a simple point and shoot camera as a SLR camera are both fine. Minimum of 8 megapixels. The workshop is all digital.

Note:
Miksang Contemplative Photography is a workshop about perception, learning to be open, and see the world around us just as it is. In that sense, we begin to open to the world of form, the many varied aspects of our visual world. From that point of view it is important to realize that in this first workshop 'Opening the Good Eye', we do not explore flowers and nature, as they are too loaded with familiarity and concepts.
