About Us

Dechen Chöling is the residential practice centre of the European Shambhala Buddhist community. The centre sits in a land of rolling-meadows and magnificent old trees near Limoges, France. People from around the world come to Dechen Chöling to learn and practice meditation, and to relax within the beauty of the land.

Dechen Chöling is a key part of Shambhala Europe—a network of more than 45 urban meditation centres and groups—and of Shambhala International, a worldwide network of 140 urban centres and seven residential practice centres. Shambhala Buddhism joins the legacy of Tibetan Buddhism with the Shambhala tradition of awakened living in the world. The teachings of Shambhala Buddhism emphasize the need in our times for cultivating enlightened society and compassion.

Throughout the year, Dechen Chöling offers programmes ranging from basic meditation and contemplative arts to advanced Buddhist and Shambhala teachings taught by renowned teachers. Many programmes are open to beginners. People are also welcome to stay at Dechen Chöling, participate in daily life or do individual retreats. At the heart of Dechen Chöling is a community of practitioners who value personal and spiritual development. The daily activity of community life is regarded as inseparable from spiritual practice.

Eva Wong, Feng Shui Master, believes that Dechen Chöling is a unique land centre in the Shambhala Mandala as its land is optimal for people who wish to integrate spiritual and family life. According to Wong it is also a good place for people beginning on their spiritual path or trying to enter again after a long break.
