Having taken the refuge vow and entered onto the path of the dharma, we expand and deepen our commitment by taking the bodhisattva vow. We commit to the heart of compassion and wisdom, vowing to liberate all beings from suffering. The bodhisattva vow is a commitment to put others before oneself, working wholeheartedly for their benefit.
Prerequisites for People Who Wish to Take the Bodhisattva Vow
- One should wait six months after taking the refuge vow before taking the bodhisattva vow.
- Study of the mahayana path and the bodhisattva vow.
- One should have a genuine desire to work for the benefit of others
- Read chapter six “The Bodhisattva Vow” from The Heart of the Buddha by Chogyam Trungpa
This is a significant commitment and it is important that you undertake it with appropriate preparation. Please email [email protected] if you would like to set up a conversation with a meditation instructor to discuss further. Please do this as soon as possible.
The vows are open to non-dathun participants, but we highly recommend you join us for a week of sitting meditation before taking a vow.
Those requesting the Vow must arrive on the afternoon of August 31st. There will be a full day of sitting on September 1st in the Dathün container. The ceremony will take place before dinner on September 1st. Friends and family are invited to witness the vow ceremony. Accommodations for guests to be confirmed.
There is a suggested contribution for the ceremony of €27.
To register please call Dechen Choling Office at 05 55 03 55 52 or email [email protected] before Monday August 24th.
Note: if you are already registered for the second two weeks of the Dathün, or the full month, you do not need to register for the ceremony in advance. Please simply make it known during the fourth week of the dathun that you intend to take the vow.
