Dancing body, dancing mind form one action. In this workshop physical attention underlies our moving practice of presence, as an unfolding of many moments of relational engagement.
Through structured improvisations, guided meditations, movement scores, exercises to awaken new experiential knowledge, discussion and more, this workshop will embrace a broad definition of dance, inviting us to move both informally and with conscious creative care. Since dance is a practice that is not limited to the skillful, but is everyone’s birthright; this workshop is for all beings, those who are trained in the art and those who wonder how it is they missed out on this calling altogether.
We seek in this time, to live and act artfully, mindfully. Embracing the bodymind in its vitality, we turn inward, discovering our inner space in a seamless continuum of motion that also turns outwardly, exploring our farthest reaches. Touch, whether physical or mental, is a gift that both sends and receives and through these days, we will come to understand its part in manifesting presence, the foundation of our relations. Dance unfolds its depth of wisdom by its doing. Yet being the dance is when its brilliance is unleashed for each of us. Finding our largest self, this dance of relations is something we can return home with, filling our worlds with an abundance of reasons to appreciate being.
The flow of concepts:
Discovering action: Actions of the body as actions of the mind. Relationality, what is the meaning of “hello?” Concept of the more than human world. Recognizing the art of change everywhere. Understanding grace and right relations. What is the skin for? Attention and awareness. Living fully. Readiness. The incredible gift of earth. Grounding.
Moving as a single being. Practices of physical attention. The ability to be a snail. Going in, going out. Discovering the mind that is always a body. Conceptual and Perceptual action. Physical rationality/Physical relationality. What’s in-touch? Fearless motion.
Practices of Peace. Always more than one. Moving together. Being a singularity while being a multiplicity. Holding complexity, simply. What a ball knows. Physical notions that support ease on every skill level. Unpacking “just being” while doing.
Dancing together. Ensemble movement as discovery. The relational intelligence of being easily moved. Experiencing the self that is many. The artful meaning of difference. Boundaries, and opening. Physical communication.
Scores for art and play. CoCreation in practice. Understanding form. Dance as practice, dance as discovery. Why grace? Practices to live. Finding ensemble in a garden. Returning to “hello”. Finding conclusion.
