Turning to meet the social and ecological challenges of our times can be demanding. The range and scale of the problems, the depth of change required, the complexity of the process, and the seriousness of the struggle ask a lot of us. But the mind, heart, and earth can offer a wellspring of powerful resources, if we know how to draw on them. Deeper Resources for Action is an annual ecodharma gathering designed to support those seeking grounded, resilient, and effective ways to act in solidarity with life.
This program explores how the perspectives and practices of Buddhist ecodharma can provide deep resources of clarity, courage, and ethical alignment for ecological and social transformation. Rather than separating inner practice from outer engagement, the gathering focuses on their mutual reinforcement: how meditation and view shape action, and how action in solidarity with life deepens practice.
We will engage in meditation, inquiry, nature-connection, contemplative arts, and shared reflection to develop practical and sustainable approaches to action. The emphasis is on cultivating inner capacities—such as emotional resilience, motivation, courage, and responsiveness—while also clarifying how these qualities support strategic, relational, and regenerative forms of engagement in the world.
The program is structured around the framework of View – Meditation – Action:
- View: examining the assumptions we hold about action, self, world, and liberation
- Meditation: embodied contemplative practices that stabilize and test these views
- Action: the natural expression of view and meditation through conduct, relationship, solidarity, and engagement
Action is approached not as an add-on, but as the lived expression of insight in service to life.
On this event, we will:
-
explore how Dharma-based views and philosophical perspectives can empower and transform social action in solidarity with life
-
draw on a deepening practice of meditation and ethical alignment to support the development of inner resources of clarity, insight, courage, patience, and emotional resilience
-
Learn with the land and wider web of life for regenerative resources
-
develop an integrated understanding of how these inner based practices inform and support outer engagement and activity
-
create a sense of supportive learning community, between each other, and with the land around Dechen Choling and the wider earth.
