Dechen Chöling offers a Buddhist refuge vow ceremony, August 18, with Barbara Märtens and John Rockwell. This is open to everyone who would like to take the refuge vow. The ceremony will be in English, with translation to French and other languages available.

In the Buddhist tradition, the purpose of taking refuge is to awaken from confusion and associate oneself with wakefulness. Taking refuge is a matter of commitment and acceptance and, at the same time, of openness and freedom. By taking the refuge vow we commit ourselves to freedom.

The vows are open to non-dathun participants, but we highly recommend you join us for a week of sitting meditation before taking a vow.

Those requesting the Vow must arrive on the afternoon of August 17th. There will be a full day of sitting on August 18th in the Dathün container. The ceremony will take place before dinner on Augut 18th. Friends and family are invited to witness the vow ceremony. Accommodations for guests to be confirmed.

There is a suggested contribution for the ceremony of €27.

To register please call Dechen Choling Office at 05 55 03 55 52 or email  [email protected] before Monday August 10th.

Note: if you are already registered for the first two weeks of the Dathün, or the full month, you do not need to register for the ceremony in advance. Please simply make it known during the second week of the dathun that you intent to take the vow.
