Ringu Tulku Rinpoche

Ringu Tulku Rinpoche

Ringu Tulku Rinpoche is a Tibetan Buddhist Master of the Kagyu Order. He trained in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism under many great masters of both the Nyingma and Kagyu traditions including HH the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa, HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Dodrupchen Rinpoche. He took his formal education at Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, Gangtok and Sampurnananda Sanskrit University, at Varanasi, India and served as Professor of Tibetology in Sikkim for 17 years. His doctoral thesis was on the Ecumenical Movement in Tibet, published under the title ‘The Ri-Me Philosophy of Jamgon Kongtrul the Great’ (Shambhala 2006).

He is also author of several important text books on Buddhism, most recently, ‘Confusion Arises as Wisdom’, (Shambhala 2012). Some of his teachings have also been published through Bodhicharya Publications as the Heart Wisdom series and the Lazy Lama, a series of pocket books.

Since 1990 he has been travelling and teaching Buddhism and meditation at more than 50 Universities, Institutes and Buddhist Centres in Europe, USA, Canada, Argentina, Mexico, The Caribbean Islands, New Zealand, Australia and Asia. He also participates in various interfaith dialogues.

He founded Bodhicharya (www.bodhicharya.org), an international organisation that coordinates the worldwide activities to preserve and transmit Buddhist teachings to promote inter-cultural dialogues and educational & social projects. He also founded the Rigul Trust which supports a number of medical and educational projects in his birthplace at Rigul, Tibet (www.rigultrust.org).

Rinpoche is the Official Representative of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa for Europe and the Founder of Karmapa Foundation Europe (www.karmapafoundation.eu).
