This powerful combination is open to both beginners and experienced practitioners of Aikido and meditation. No prior experience is necessary.
Founded by Ueshiba Morihei (O‑Sensei, “Great Teacher”), Aikido is both an effective martial art rooted in Japanese traditions and a profound spiritual discipline of harmony (ai) and life-force energy (ki). It trains mindfulness, clarity, and awareness of inter-relationship/interdependence through martial forms and movement with a strong relevance for our daily life.
The Shambhala teachings, grounded in Buddhist, Taoist and other Asian traditions, were presented in the West by meditation master Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche specifically to address the challenges of our modern world. They cultivate innate wisdom, clarity, confidence, and courage in service of others.
Join us at Dechen Chöling, in the rolling countryside of the French Limousin. The program includes traditional Aikido keiko (practice), sitting meditation, talks, and experiential exercises that deepen our connection to our senses, each other, and our environment. We will explore the heart of spiritual warriorship in both Shambhala and Aikido, with time to enjoy nature and community.
These traditions complement each other beautifully; all participants take part in both Aikido and meditation sessions.
Important note: Open to all interested. Aikido is physically demanding; healthy joints, back, and cardiovascular condition are important. If you are unsure or have questions, please contact [email protected].
